Ex Spink Auction, 4 Jul 1995 - Lot 620 (part)
Ex Middleham Hoard - discovered Jun 1993
The Middleham (North Yorkshire) hoard consisted of 5,099 coins likely buried between 1645 to 1649 in 3 separate pots. Of the 5,099 coins, there were 1,282 sixpences of Elizabeth I and of which, 3 were this extremely rare date. This equates to 0.23% of the sixpences within the hoard, a figure that is an overrepresentation compared to most hoards or single finds.
