Obverse:
EDWARDVS DI GRA REX ANGL. Facing crowned bust within a quatrefoil with a small flower in each spandrill. Flower each side of hair.
Reverse:
DNS HIBNE DVX AQVT. LONDONIA CIVI. Longcross dividing the legend with three pellets in each angle.
Ex Lord Stewartby. This coin is best described from Stewartby’s ticket “In the worst possible condition, worn, chipped, cracked, scratched, gilt, has been mounted and in a fire – an abysmal specimen”. Overall its an affordable example of the first groat minted in Britain, it books at £3,000 for fine and £9,200 for very fine.
