Obverse:
RIC(over EDW) AR[D DI G] REX ANGL Z FRANC DNS HIB E AQVIA. King standing facing in a ship, sword in right hand, shield in left, double satire stops. French title and ropes 3-1.
Reverse:
IHC AVTEM TRANSIENS PER MEDIV ILLORVM IBAT. Florated cross with lis terminals, lions between with crowns above, all within tressure of eight arches. Saltire stops, R in centre.
Crease and surface marks including dig on the ship otherwise good fine, the reverse better and exceptionally rare.
Lord Stewartby’s envelope note reads “The only known altered Calais noble (or “1a” of Calais)”. This obverse die, in its unaltered state, reading EDW is also known muled with a Richard II reverse in the Doubleday collection number 316.
