Ex Fishpool Hoard, Glendining Auction, 17 Oct 1968 - Lot 1 (Illustrated)
The Fishpool hoard was discovered on 22 March 1966 at Fishpool, Notts and is described as the largest and most important hoard of gold coins found in the British Isles. It consisted of 1,237 coins ranging from Edward III to Edward IV and likely has a deposition date of early 1464, during the Wars of the Roses. Only 89 of these coins were made available to the market, with the British Museum purchased the remainder and are normally on display in their Medieval Europe rooms.
