Obverse:
EDWARDVS DI GRA REX ANGL. Facing crowned bust within a quatrefoil with a small flower in each spandrel. Cinquefoil each side of head and rosette in centre of drapery.
Reverse:
DNS HIBNE DVX AOVT. LONDONIA CIVI. Longcross dividing the legend with three pellets in each angle.
Scratched obverse and slightly dished flan otherwise very fine, toned and very rare. Same obverse die as SCBI 39 - North - 7. Reverse with O for Q in AQVT, not listed by Allen.

This was the first groat issued in Britain, the largest denomination at the time but it was not popular as a circulating coin so production soon stopped. The coin was, however, very popular as an item of jewellery and the majority of surviving examples are either pierced or gilded.
