Obverse:
HEN[R]IC REX ANGL . Crowned facing bust, lis by neck.
Reverse:
CIVI[T]AS EBORACI. Long cross pattée dividing the legend, with three pellets in each angle. Extra annulets in two quarters.
Edge chipped otherwise very fine and exceptionally rare.
Found Thirsk, North Yorkshire, 24th Sep 2023.
There were only 3 examples known to Lessen at the time of his publication in the British Numismatic Journal, 1 is his collection and 2 others in museums. The current Spink plate coin, Ex Dr J. Hulett, auctioned at DNW for £1,860 (Inc. BP.) in June 2018 and the Lessen example, also sold through DNW, achieved £2,232 (Inc. BP.) in July 2019.
