Obverse:
THE COMMONWEALTH OF ENGLAND. Shield of St. George in wreath of palm and laurel.
Reverse:
1653 GOD WITH US. Joined shields of St. George and Ireland with value mark II VI above.
A few light marks otherwise very fine. Very dark 'Thames' tone.
Ex M. Trenerry Coins with ticket noting Ex Bull Wharf Hoard.
The Bull Wharf hoard's latest coin was a James I halfgroat with the mm. cinquefoil, so this is obviously an incorrect attribution. The toning is indicative of the Thames finds of the Blackfriars hoard, which contained over 1,500 coins and of which, 174 were Commonwealth halfcrowns.
